Compare the whole effort
A task that takes ten minutes each month may not justify hours of setup and recurring monitoring. A checklist can provide most of the benefit with fewer failure modes.
Notice unstable rules
If experienced people disagree about the correct next step, automation will not settle the disagreement. Clarify the process and the decision owner first.
Protect consequential decisions
A high workload does not override the need for professional judgment or appropriate controls. Separate administrative preparation from the decision itself, and get specialist advice where necessary.
Revisit with a trigger
Deferring a tool is a decision, not a failure. Set a reason to reassess, such as a sustained increase in volume, a documented rule set, or a named person with maintenance capacity.
A clear reason to wait is a useful assessment result.
